I'm on Virgin, on the 300mins, 300 texts for £10 a month, as part of a Virgin Media bundle, where we get home phone, and superfast (that, unlike most people I know, is superfast) broadband too, for a grand total of just £30 a month - a bargain really!

To get a cell phone contract, you have to be 18 and you have to pass a credit check or pay a security deposit. If you are eligible for a contract, each carrier has a selection of free phones. The rest are heavily discounted.

I am with orange. I also hardly use my phone to make calls and text a LOT. Anyway its 30 pound a month for unlimited. Better if you buy a new phone without changing the sim though which means of course you would have to change your number but as long as it is a WAP compatible phone should be ok

I'd have to guess no. If you wanted to track your phone (such as if you were a business owner, and wanted to track your employees through their phone) it would require an extra fee for the service, and it would require a JAVA app to be downloaded and installed on the phone itself. Being your phone doesn't have that installed and running, you may have no luck. Also the phone would have to be facing the sky so if it was lost indoors, or with a lot of buildings blocking it, the GPS wouldn't work anyway.

O2 definetely for pay as you go and contract! Tmobile id say r the worst!
With o2 genie chips that you get free off the internet you top up and get free texts theyre also cheap 2 make calls and have other offers for cheap calls on top of your freet texts! They aslo have good deals for contracts, and have contracts where you can leave them with a months notice not like most places which make you sign a year/18 month contract!

i text way more than i call to,
so i'm on t-mobile and you can choose a package depending on whether you're a talker or a texter!!
for example .. i'm on text appeal cos i am a texter and my calls are a little more expensive but not much and my texts are now 3p each :D
or you can do it the other way round but i'm not sure the exact prices for that...
but yeah the whole thing is brilliant and i'd reccomend it :)

I use O2. its flawless, seriously.
I also text more than i ring and so its good that it only costs 2p per text. You can also get a genie Sim card (Up to 500 free texts!) or you could ring O2 treats and have your pick of treats which include free phone calls for a month, free texts, free calls to voicemail etc

The answer you are looking for is no. Nextel does not track missing phones. I'm a Nextel Dealer and had a customer that lost his phone and Nextel told us that he would have to purchase a new phone. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

When I was in Iraq, a lot of people bought them while they were over there. Once the tour was over they can be sold to new people arriving. It actually happens like this more than you would think. Unfortunately my boyfriend hasn't done this so I just stick to emails and IM's. Although you don't like the IM's, yahoo messenger allows you to call over the computer. I use my webcam a lot too. Good luck.

Vonage... get Vonage at home and buy a 'soft phone' and you can call anywhere there's an internet connection to home and it doesn't cost anything. Best solution hands down.

We use Vonage for our home phone. When he deploys, we will add a line and he can get a "stick" phone that he can take with him and use no matter where he goes. He travels alot between FOBs so he can use it at other places. He had a cell phone last time, but the minutes are outrageous. He had net in his room last time so will cross our fingers for that.
But you will always deal with unstable net, commo blackouts, low bandwidth. Just part of it. We are just thankful that we get commo at all and appreciate whatever we get.
But Vonage is the way to go.

My husband bought a phone/SIM card in-country during his last deployment. I don't know which one it was, but it was a cheap Motorola phone - he actually has the same phone now, and it was a Cingular Go phone that we paid $18 for. (Not to say that that phone would work over there, but he purchased a similar phone in Iraq that was programmed to work off of their systems.) He should be able to buy a phone and SIM card there, and it will probably be cheaper than you buying it online and shipping it, not to mention it'll be quicker.
I used Vonage to call him. It was still 30 cents a minute, but that was the cheapest I could find. I know Cingular charged about $3/minute, which is absolutely insane. Call your phone company and see what they charge. You may be able to get a plan with unlimited international minutes - depending on how often you call, it could be cheaper than paying by the minute. I know we were paying $80-100/month when I was calling him.

I would assume they all work like Verizon where when youg et a new phone all that do is turn your phone one. You call from another one and they will set you up saying you have a new phone and when you call a certain number from the new phone it unlocks it and sets it up with your number...I dont know how Cingular works. Just call and ask them.

unlocked phones can be used with any cell phone service that used sim cards
if you were to buy a used at&t phone a simple swap would be possible

Answer 1:
If your phone uses GSM technology, you can unlock it and then get a SIM card from Cingular. Yuor phone should work. If you go to another country and your phone is unlocked AND compatible to the other country's MHz frequency, yo can go to the local store of a service provider and buy a SIM card. If you're not staying abroad for very long, call your own service provider and ask for details about their Roaming service.
Answer 2:
Yes, that's exactly what you should do with the unlocked phone you've just bought. Or you can call Cingular first and ask them for more details on how to get a phone line with them.

Hiya Buddy! Yes,its a minefield out there, just tread carefully. The most common trap is to respond to a text message call number! Delete it pronto! Regarding Youtube and Google maps, you need a data plan of 1gigabyte per month! Here's a tip when searching music, you can find artists and their names on Youtube!

you can't buy a jailbroken iPhone. You have to jailbreak it yourself, which is basically just allowing you to use 3rd party apps and to change your SIM card to one from a different carrier. Jailbreaking, however, voids your warranty and if your phone breaks you won't be able to get it fixed very easily. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I assume to buy an iPhone you have to sign up for some sort of service from them. I would first buy the phone prepaid, without a contract, and pay one of their high priced plans for a few months. After that, you could possibly cancel that service and you might be able to then keep the phone because you already paid for it fully. You would then be able to jailbreak your phone (search youtube for instructions) and change your SIM card to one from your carrier.
Hope I helped. I'm not an expert at this, so if I'm wrong, sorry.

It depends on which carrier you have. I used to have a Tracfone...and it still took minutes off for incoming calls.
I'm guessing its the same with almost every company.

yes u get charged for incoming calls on pay as u go u pay for everything u do. no u dont get to talk to other t-mobile customers for free. and yes it would be worth it that is the phone that most t-mobile places r giving away free so its a good basic phone for pay as u go.
